Local Weather Alert: Severe storms are possible in the D.C. region this afternoon. Tornadoes, heavy rain and damaging winds are the main threats.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch, in effect until 9 p.m., which includes the Washington area. Damaging storms could occur during the early-to-mid afternoon before moving out of the region in the early evening. Isolated tornadoes, heavy rain, lightning and winds exceeding 60 mph are possible.
